Crime Alert – Diversion Scam

Shortly after 2PM on July 17, 2012,  a resident in the 100 block of Old Depot Road, New Cumberland, PA, was lured from her home by a young, Hispanic looking male.  The male told her he had been hired by a local realtor to trim the trees on an adjoining property.  The male had the woman walk completely out of her yard and into the neighboring property to exam the trees.  While the woman was distracted, the male’s accomplice entered her home and removed several items of value.

The male was to be driving a newer model, white, courier type van.

Anyone with information concerning this incident should contact Fairview Township Police – 717-901-5267.

All residents who are contacted by any persons claiming to be a representative of any company are advised to use appropriate caution before allowing them into their home, leaving their home unattended and/or giving out any personal information.

A good practice would be to request identification and to confirm the person’s status as a representative of that company. This can be done by contacting the company directly.
