Officer Stops 11-yr old Boy From Jumping off Balcony

Around 2:30 a.m. on Monday August 13th, Officer Buzzard, a 9-year veteran of the Fairview Township Police Department, was patrolling the parking lots of the local motels. During his check of the Motel 6 off of Limekiln Road, he encountered a family in need of assistance. An 11-yr old boy with apparent mental health issues was running around and screaming. The parents were having difficulty controlling him, but they were able to get him back into the room. While Officer Buzzard was speaking with the parents, the boy ran out of the room and to the second floor railing. He then climbed over the railing and yelled that he wanted to kill himself and was going to jump. Officer Buzzard was able to grab the child and pull him back before any harm could come to him. The boy continued making statements about wanting to die, and he was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Had Officer Buzzard not been there, this incident may not have ended as well as it did. The Fairview Township Police Department is glad to have an observant and conscientious officer like Officer Buzzard, who likely prevented a tragedy from occurring.

Update: Officer Buzzard will be receiving a commendation for his actions at the next Fairview Township board meeting scheduled for August 27th at 7:00 p.m.
