New Cumberland man arrested for possession of child pornography

The Fairview Township Police Department has filed a felony charge of Possession of Child Pornography against 52 year old Michael L. Bennett of New Cumberland.

Bennett was on probation in Dauphin County resulting from an arrest in 2008 for child pornography and other charges. He had been living at the Travel Inn, 300 Commerce Drive, New Cumberland.  During a visit by Bennett’s probation officer, they discovered that he was possession of a laptop computer, which was a violation of his parole. Dauphin County Probation seized the computer and turned it over to the Fairview Township Police Department.

After completion of a forensic examination of the computer, it was found to contain 41 images which appear to depict males and females under the age of eighteen engaging in explicit display or in a sexual act as outlined in the Pennsylvania Crimes Code.

During an interview conducted by the Fairview Township Police Department, Bennett admitted to using the computer to view child pornography and that he used it for his personal sexual gratification.

The Fairview Township Police Department was assisted in this investigation by Dauphin County Adult Probation and by the Northern York County Regional Police Department.

Bennett was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Scott Gross and bail was set at $25,000.  Bennett is currently incarcerated at the Dauphin County Prison.
