Old York Road will be closed on April 8th to do work on the bridge that goes over the PA Turnpike. The bridge is near the Defense Logistics Agency and is located between Normandy Memorial Road and Marsh Run Road. Both lanes of Old York Road will be closed to traffic until the end of October. Traffic patterns will be altered, and drivers can expect delays at intersections on and near Lewisberry Road until the construction is completed. The detour is I-83 and is outlined in the attached map: Old York Road Detour.
When there is an accident on I-83 that requires lane closures, expect very heavy and congested traffic conditions both on the Interstate and on nearby side roads. In these circumstances, traffic will be diverted off of I-83, either at exit 32 or 39A depending on whether the closure is north or south-bound, and onto Lewisberry Road. Drivers will then be directed back on to the Interstate after approximately 7 miles. See the attached map for the I-83 emergency incident temporary detour: I-83 Accident Detour
The PA Turnpike plans to launch a project website so interested parties can stay informed of the progress. To access the website, visit www.paturnpike.com click on the link for “Major Design and Construction Projects” and click on the MP242 to 245 project.
Fairview Township Police are asking for drivers to be patient during this construction period, and recommend allowing extra travel time to get to your destination if it is within the detour route.
