Traffic crash knocks out power to thousands on the west shore

Justin Danfelt, a 29 year old male from Mechanicsburg was transported to Harrisburg Hospital following an early morning crash that knocked out power to thousands of west shore residents and businesses.

The Fairview Township Police Department was dispatched at 4:15 Saturday morning to the 900 block of Limekiln Road for a report of a transformer fire that knocked out electricity in the area.  Upon arrival, it was discovered that the cause of the electricity outage was a single vehicle crash.  A westbound vehicle had crossed the oncoming lane of travel and left the road surface. Upon doing so it traveled through a utility pole, a mailbox and a fence before coming to rest.  The utility pole was completely sheered off at the ground and the damage resulted in a massive power outage affecting thousands of people in both York and Cumberland Counties.

Danfelt was found to be the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle.  He was transported by ambulance to Harrisburg Hospital for treatment.

Charges are pending the completion of the crash investigation.
