On June 24th in Philadelphia, Officer Tyson Baker with Fairview Township Police and Detective Braxton Ditty with Newberry Township Police each received the Central Region Law Enforcement of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Shield and Square Club. They received the award for their actions during an incident in Newberry Township in January 2012, in which a suicidal subject fired a gun shot and then fled into the woods. When officers caught up to him, he was holding a broken bottle to his neck and refusing to listen to police commands. Ofc.Baker used a Taser to incapacitate the subject and he was taken into custody without anyone getting hurt.
The Officer of the Year award was given to only five people out of thousands of candidates in different regions of the state. The Fairview Township Police Department is proud of their actions, and our communities are fortunate to have such high-quality officers serving them.
