Megans Law Offender Arrested

Shortly after 3:00 pm on March 1st, Fairview Township Police were called to a residence in the 500 block of Beinhower Road, Etters, for a domestic disturbance. One of the parties involved in the disturbance was 45-yr old Matthew Smeltzer. Smeltzer is registered with the PA State Police Megan’s Law Unit as a Tier III Sexual Offender for indecent assault against a minor.  Tier III offenders are required to update their address with the State Police quarterly.

Smeltzer told police he moved from his registered address on Stillhouse Lane, Etters, to the 300 block of Vally Road last fall due to flooding. He stated he also stays at the address on Beinhower Road with his girlfriend and her two children. Having contact with children was determined by police to be a violation of his York County probation.

Smeltzer was taken into custody and charged with the felony offense Failure to Comply with Registration Requirements. He will also be facing penalties from York County Probation due to the other violations.
