Officer Andrew Paul Commendation

Fairview Township Police Officer Recognized:

Police Officer Andrew Paul received a Chief’s Commendation at the Fairview Township’s Board of Supervisor’s meeting held on May 21, 2012 for an incident that occurred in 2009.

In the summer of that year, Fairview Township Police Officer Andrew Paul and his family, along with Newberry Township Police Officer Braxton Ditty, were enjoying the day on the Susquehanna River in the Wrightsville area.  Even though they were off duty, both officers responded to a call for help.  Jack Hugendubler, formerly of Wellsville, PA, had lost consciousness and was slumped over in the captain’s chair on  his boat.  When Hugendubler’s wife Brenda shouted for help, Officers Paul and Ditty swam to the boat and with the aid of several individuals, administered CPR to Hugendubler.  Using his cell phone, Officer Paul contacted 911 and coordinated a meeting spot with EMS, who in turn transported Hugendubler to York Memorial Hospital.   Despite having other things planned that day, Officers Paul and Ditty took the extra time to remove the Hugendubler’s boat from the water and secure it on their boat trailer.  Several days later, Officer Paul received the good news that Jack Hugendubler survived his episode.

Officer Ditty was previously recognized by his Police Department, and both officers were also recognized by Hugendubler’s employer at the time, the Defense Logistics Agency in New Cumberland.

It is believed that Officer Paul’s actions may have saved Hugendubler’s life that day and he is the kind of Officer that Fairview Township is proud to have on its force.  He responded quickly, decisively, and professionally, and is very much deserving to be recognized for his actions.
